Plain old missiles that just obliterate the target are going out of style. Something a little more subtle and delicate is in order now - like a missile that drains the target's power instead of making it go up in smoke.

Boeing are well on their way to delivering this advanced new weapon with the first test on CHAMP (Counter-Electronics High-Powered Advanced Missile Project) having taken place in the Utah desert last week. The test was a success, as CHAMP successfully shut down a room full of electronics with practically no collateral damage during the hour-long test. The missile didn't even collide with the building - it just coasted by, emitting microwaves that do the actual disabling. According to Boeing's program manager Keith Coleman, it's fully capable of rendering enemy electronics completely useless before the cavalry arrives.

With cyber warfare on the rise, the ability to disable electronics without destroying them just may come in handy, but perhaps the biggest advantage is keeping human casualties to a minimum, whether friend or foe.
